For a lot of local service searches, your Google Business Profile — not your website — is the first and sometimes only thing a potential customer sees. It's worth treating with the same care as your homepage.
The most common mistakes we see: an incomplete or outdated service area, hours that don't match reality (especially around holidays), a primary category that doesn't match how customers actually search, and a near-empty photo section that leaves the listing looking abandoned.
A quieter mistake: not responding to reviews, good or bad. A profile with recent, answered reviews reads as an active, trustworthy business. A profile with old, unanswered reviews reads as neglected, even if the business behind it is thriving.
A five-minute audit you can do right now: search your own business name on Google and check whether the hours shown match your actual hours, whether your primary category matches what you'd call yourself out loud, whether there are at least five to ten real photos, and whether your most recent review has a reply from you.
If you find gaps, fixing them takes minutes inside the free Google Business Profile dashboard — no agency or subscription required for this particular fix.
None of this requires an agency or a monthly retainer to fix — it requires about twenty minutes and someone who knows what to check. Our free Local SEO Snapshot tool is built to flag exactly these issues if you want a starting point.
